Math review with engineering!

We had a math review day before a chapter test. The students were split up into teams and there were a slew of materials at the front of the room (cups, tape, paper clips, rubber bands, anything I could find!). The students would work together to solve 3 review problems, they would have to get it checked, and then they would have three minutes to start building a tower. They could only work on it for those three minutes, and then they would have to answer three more questions correctly. This was a great way to review for the test while also doing a fun activity that involved engineering! You could also add a competition aspect and see who could build the tallest tower. The kids were really engaged with this and really enjoyed it!

What a fun idea! They could use an iPad to create a Timelapse video of the building of their tower. I think that they would love the opportunity to show parents and friends outside of the class what they created.
