Automatic Photo-Tagging using Siri Shortcuts - from missing feature to a Must-Have

Stamp photos with date, time and location information using “Snap n Tag” and “Photo Tagger” Siri Shortcuts.

Siri Shortcuts is a powerful tool to enhance the functionality of our iPhones, iPads and Macs. It enables us creating shortcuts and automations to meet our needs and have our devices serve us even better. Whether it is increasing productivity by automating repetitive tasks or enhancing functionality of your device, you can do it with Siri Shortcuts. The possibilities are endless, your creativity is the limit.

I have always wanted the ability to stamp my photos with date-time and location information using my iPhone. This simple feature is not available on iPhone by default, so, I used Siri Shortcuts to make iPhone do it for me.

It is important for me and I believe it can help many other educators in documenting their learning activities and personal cherished moments.

Why photo stamping is a Must-Have for Educators and cherished memories?

We often take photos in our professional and personal lives, adding a simple stamp can profoundly enhance its value like in the following scenarios.

Lab experiments:

Instantly identify when and where a specific setup, observation or result was captured. It is crucial for scientific rigor.

Field Trips & Outdoor Learning:

Accurately log the exact time and geographical context of biological samples, geological formations or historical sites.

Student Projects & Portfolios:

Help students easily organize and contextualize their work, whether it’s an art, engineering prototype or scientific models.

Classroom Documentation:

Keep precise records of learning activities, special events or changes in classroom setups throughout the year.

Professional Development:

Document insights resources and connections made at conferences or workshops.

Personal Memories:

These stamps instantly provide the context of exactly when and where that vacation photo was taken when you are sharing photos with your friends and family making memories even richer and easier to recall over the years. It is the little detail that makes sharing so much more.

These stamps aren’t just details, they are vital metadata that transforms a simple photo into a rich piece of contextual evidence saving you time and confusion down the line.

  1. Easily select a photo from camera roll. (Launch either from Siri Shortcut or from the share sheet of the photo)
  2. Choose to automatically pull date, time and location from the photo’s metadata or manually input them if metadata isn’t available or needs adjustment.
  3. Preview the stamp overlay, ensuring it looks right.
  4. The information is neatly stamped in the lower-right corner of your photo.
  5. A final review before saving the new stamped photo to your gallery.
