Learning with iPad - "Twisted Tongue Twisters" for learning Language

Context

This fun and fast-paced activity builds students’ speaking confidence in a low-stakes, creative way. Tongue twisters are a great tool to practise articulation, rhythm, and fluency which are key elements of effective spoken English. The use of video helps students become more aware of their pacing, clarity, and pronunciation while providing a fun way to showcase their skills.

Preparation and Flow

Introduction - Explain that students will be recording themselves saying tongue twisters as clearly as possible. The challenge is speed and clarity.

Warm-up - Do a few tongue twisters as a class. Focus on enunciation, stress, and pace e.g. e.g. “how much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?"

Practise Speaking - Give time for students to practise saying their tongue twisters clearly and confidently. Encourage repeating until they’re comfortable.

Record Video - Using Clips or iMovie, students record a short video (30–60 seconds) of themselves performing their tongue twisters. Optional: Add titles or effects.

Share (Optional) - Videos can be shared with the class, in small groups, or uploaded to a shared folder for feedback or celebration.

Possible Extension

Using Clips, add music stickers, quotes, emotions etc for dramatic and visual impact as the twisters are said in the clip. A bit of tongue-in-cheek actor could be fun as well, helping to draw students deeper into how language and drama can add to learning and appreciating then joys of performing the language.
