Lesson Details:
Students will use iMovie to create an engaging book trailer in order to persuade their peers to read a novel the group has recently read.
Goals:
Students will demonstrate their reading comprehension and ability to analyze literary text by creating a book trailer that includes specific criteria.
Students will utilize the features of iMovie to plan, create, and present their book trailer to their classmates.
Students will work collaboratively to create a final project that includes contributions from all group members.
Standards:
ELA.6/7/8.2: Determine a theme or central idea of a literary text and how it is conveyed through particular details; provide a summary of the text distinct from personal opinions or judgments.
ELA.6/7/8.3: Describe how a particular story’s or drama’s plot unfolds in a series of events and how the characters respond or change as the plot moves toward a resolution.
ELA.6.7.8.30: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions with diverse partners on grade level topics, texts, and issues, building on others’ ideas and expressing ideas clearly.
ELA.6/7/8.34: Include multimedia components and visual displays in presentations to clarify information.
Success Criteria:
Trailer accurately represents the theme, central idea, mood, and purpose of a novel through intentional use of text, visual images, and music.
Project demonstrates group collaboration and effective use of the iMovie app.
