iPad 1:1 Professional Learning Tips and Tricks

Hi!

Many districts have been long-time 1:1 districts with netbooks (remember those?) and Chromebooks, but they’re now transitioning to iPads for student devices. I’m curious to know your recommendations, tips, and tricks for academic/instructional technology teams, specific to educators and students. Are there any specific things you would advise school districts when making this transition? What professional learning strategies have you implemented to support this transition?

Often, we say, “If I could go back and do this again, I would…” Let’s create a guide of best practices that tend to be overlooked or forgotten when supporting educators with iPads and classroom instruction!

Keep be amazing change agents and champions in education!

If we could go back to first implementing Apple devices in our district, I think I would like to be more intentional about teaching staff the power of the devices. We handed devices out, provided just a little bit of support, and told teachers to earn their Apple Teacher certification to learn about their devices. I think if we had gone slower and did more personal training on how to use the devices to improve their workflow, then they would have seen the power of the devices in increasing student engagement and achievement earlier than they did.
