Simple ways to engage with my "staycationers"?

As I've finished my formal Apple Coaching journey and really started to dive in at my schools, I'm wondering if any of you have found any simple, but effective ways to do more outreach with the teachers who lean toward the staycationer persona. Anyone have an suggestions?

Meet them where they are! Encourage them to take a small step, then celebrate that step! After that, encourage them to take another small step, and keep going! Before long, they will be shocked at their progress.

I've found that showing small tips/tricks that they don't know about (even if we think they are super basic) is helpful. For example, one of my teachers had no idea that there was a timer app that he could AirPlay. That was a GameChanger for him. Another teacher didn't know that their iCloud Drive was accessible both on their iPad and MacBook. Small wins can lead to big changes.

I agree with Eileen! Start small. It could be something as simple as showing how you can assist with a daily task like the bellwork or exit ticket.

Small steps lead to big gains in the end!

Thanks Emily for the question. I’m just starting my Apple Coaching journey so I’m all ears. ( I had to scroll ahead and see the description of “Staycationers” 😊)

I like both what Eileen and Megan suggested - good approach. Did you make a podcast with your solution? Can’t wait to hear what others find as effective outreach.

I know Eileen and Megan already said it but I have the most success with small steps. It depends on the teacher and their teaching style, sometimes I focus on the tools that will make their life easier first. Then that gives me an open door to say "Oh and your students can...".

Another strategy I use is to take an idea to them and say that I would really like to try it out and thought their classroom would be a great place to try it. I then ask if we could do it together in their room. Knowing that I'm the one that is going to teach the iPad part takes some of the scariness away. I also make sure these idea I take to them are little to no prep so they feel confident in trying it again without me. Being a block schedule helps with this because I can teach on one day and they can teach on the next while I'm just there to support.

Understanding why someone prefers staying put is a good starting point and then you can find out what they do well and what could save them time or solve a problem they have by using tech. I love the comment above which says meet them where they are at and take small steps. Solving someone’s problem with a tech tool is usually a quick win!
