Improvement is a “Yaaaaassssss!!!” & a 😀 and a “come see this” from a learner, whether it’s a new skill, an old skill redefined or a “life made moment”

Improvement feels like a big smile and the pride wells up. But sometimes you gradually notice that improvement and only feel that pride once you start looking back and see how far you have come. If improvement was a room it would probably be that cupboard where you put everything. Things build up and then you have a sift through and see what is there, you keep some stuff and you throw other things away or pass it on to someone else 😊

Improvement is a gradual uptick. Knowing where you are stating from, where you are going and what it looks like. You need to be able to recognise change as it happens.

Both. Improvement can happen over time but only thru action.

Being able to move.

The kitchen. The room where everyone contributes, discusses and feels part of the ‘party’

Improvement is challenging. Stakeholders need to be receptive to self reflection which can at times cause anxiety or fear. The achievement than comes as a result is motivating and inspiring but it can be a rocky road! Definitely not easy.

It is important to have support and others to collaborate with when working towards real improvements.

Real improvement and change requires time and investment.

Most memorable moment: Showing another teacher how to copy information from a photo. A quick win to save time and reduce errors copying small amounts of text.

A room for improvement would be in the basement of the house. Improving and up-levelling is the foundation of everything you do - it would be a space you could go down to escape from the busyness of the rest of the house to reflect and be free to be as innovative as you want.

Improvement is a series of actions. It is a process.

  • What does improvement feel like?

Improvement is a moment when, as an educator, you feel you have accomplished a part of your mission; a platform that has been reached that can lead to the next. It is inspiring and fulfilling.

  • Is improvement an occasion or an action?

Improvement can be either, but I prefer to think of it as a process that is never fully completed.

  • What is your own most memorable - yet least notable - improvement in the last 24 hours?

Connecting with a student in a (non-academic) way that helps facilitate learning, opening the door for improvement.

  • If there was a room for improvement, where would it be in the house?

The room for improvement would be a safe space where experimentation and mistakes are encouraged. Without this safe space and the opportunity to experiment and learn from those less-than-successful moments, improvement is difficult to experience.

I’ve been playing with ChatGPT and wondered what it would make of the questions. While the room for improvement question ended up with suggestions for remodelling my house the

The question about is improvement and occasion or an action is a bit more sentient.

“Improvement can be both an occasion and an action, depending on the context.

As an occasion, improvement can refer to a specific event or moment when something gets better or is enhanced in some way. For example, if you make a significant improvement to your performance at work, you might celebrate that as an occasion of improvement.

As an action, improvement refers to the process of making something better or enhancing it over time. This involves taking intentional steps to identify areas that could be improved, setting goals for improvement, and taking action to make those improvements happen.

Overall, improvement is often an ongoing process that involves a series of actions taken over time to make something better. However, there may also be specific occasions or events that mark significant milestones in that process of improvement.”

Food for thought.

My other favourite thing to ask it is to write songs by giving it topics of existing classics.

“Write me a song about a girl called Gina who is struggling to make ends meet by working in a diner to support Tommy who plays guitar in a band. “ did not inspire the AI to write Livin’ On A Prayer.

  1. Improvement can be difficult, and it can sometimes feel painful and tough. But it can also feel liberating, affirmative and exciting.
  2. I’d say improvement is an occasion because it occurs during a passage of time (this could be of any length) that involves an action or series of actions to get better or make something better.
  3. I kicked a football last night, with power, without first considering the negative consequence for the first time since suffering a major injury last September.
  4. The kitchen - it always looks like a tornado has rolled through! (Often times that tornado is my 4 year-old)

This reminds me of the saying: “be 1% better”. Improvement doesn’t have to be a life-changing feeling, it can be small and meaningful. That’s why celebrating the little wins is so important to me.

I feel like I should do the lottery tonight…I did not know that was going to be the theme of the speakers! 😅

  • What does improvement feel like?

Improvement feels like progress. Small steps, but generally in more than one direction.

  • Is improvement an occasion or an action?

Improvement is an action. An ongoing journey.

  • What is your own most memorable - yet least notable - improvement in the last 24 hours?

In the last 24 hours I finished lots of school repots and prepared work for my classes for today.

  • If there was a room for improvement, where would it be in the house?

A yet unbuilt extension.

Improvement feels like arriving at the next station on a journey! Watching the progress!

February 28, 2023

Improvement feels like a positive change. It is a journey…. Not one action but more a series of actions leading a change for the better.

The room for improvement in my house would definitely be the den! It needs it and it’s where my crazy ideas develop.
